Emotional Intelligence Training
Using Emotional Intelligence to Develop Great Leaders

We believe your organization has an excellent opportunity to tap into the needs of their leadership team and staff through a program in Emotional Intelligence, with Equanimity and our partnership with the Institute for Health & Human Potential (IHHP).

IHHP has worked with organizations such as Pfizer, Ernst & Young, Wells Fargo, Avaya, the U.S. Navy and others around the world and found that those companies most able to summon the courage to risk and change fundamental ways of doing business are those that outperform the competition in the long run.

While it is clear individuals at your company currently function at high levels, this program represents an opportunity to use leading edge thinking to continue to get to the next level of performance. It will provide leaders with tools and strategies to increase their ability to manage themselves as well as manage the critical relationships that exist between themselves and the people around them.

Required Change
In one of the latest issues of Fast Company, Robert L. Joss, Dean of Stanford Graduate School of Business, was quoted:  “Over my lifetime and in my four years as dean, I've become more aware of and impressed by how much of leadership is about emotional intelligence. The more you lead, the more you understand just how much of it is about motivation -- and motivation is about emotions. Most universities operate in the world of the intellect: The person with the best idea is the brightest. But to lead, being smart isn't sufficient. You have to connect with people, so that they want to help you move the organization forward.”
Emotionally intelligent leaders:
  • Take more initiative
  • Are more entrepreneurial in their thinking and see new opportunities to add value to clients
  • Are able to make decisions focused on the desired consequence
  • Encourage honest and candid feedback to their direct reports and peers
  • Become confident in themselves and their ability to take on new tasks and build new relationships
  • Are agile and adaptive as change is not viewed as a one time event
  • Can effectively deal with the setbacks that come with the territory from this type of culture of risk and change
  • Are more focused on performance than their competitors
In this world of change, much rests on the ability of the Leader and Manager in coaching their employees to grow the business.  As in sports, a coach can be the difference between a team that moves to the next level of performance and wins, versus a team that has all of the natural talent and technical ability in the world but finishes second.  In business today, finishing second is not an option.

What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional intelligence is the capacity for effectively recognizing and managing our own emotions and those of others.  It is self-awareness and self-management; social awareness and social management.  At the core, it is relationship management and connection.  Emotions have the potential to get in the way of our most important business and personal relationships.  According to John Kotter of Harvard Business School:

“Because of the furious pace of change in business today, difficult to manage relationships sabotage more business than anything else - it is not a question of strategy that gets us into trouble, it is a question of emotions.”

Emotional Intelligence for Personal and Business Leadership
During the training the team will learn:
  • The importance of Emotional Intelligence in the business world
  • What defines an emotionally intelligent leader and team-member (self-awareness, empathy, impulse control, etc.)
  • The science behind why emotions can get in the way of effective decision-making – and relationships
  • Tips and strategies on how to manage emotions and become more emotionally intelligent…yes you can learn the skills of emotions
